Research Activities:
Continued effort in establishing a research laboratory for the analysis and
characterization of nano materials and structures. We were able to achieve enhancements
to our home-built Magneto-optical Faraday/Kerr Effect Microscope. An SNR improvement

of about one order of magnitude with successful T-MOKE analysis of Co/Pd multilayers
perpendicular magnetic media thin films. The microscope is now suitable to achieve other
modes of operation such as solely reflective samples )Polar-MOKE(. In addition, our AFM
Workshop scanning probe microscope had been optimized to overcome a major drawback

of poor mechanical coupling between probe and piezo-vibrator. Hundreds of images were
obtained during the past year. Furthermore, the lab is now under construction for fully
remote operation and monitoring of the instruments and lab environment.

Lecturing Activities:
Three courses in our department were completely converted to English-based lecturing
on the topics of Micro/Nano Electronics, Digital Logic Systems, and Digital Switching
Circuits.
